Society for Bioinformatics in the Nordic countries
Aim and Scope for the Society
SocBIN - Society for Bioinformatics in the Nordic countries
Bioinformatics is a new scientific area that in the
Nordic countries have been widely established in both academia and companies
during the last couple of years. To promote contacts between bioinformaticians
within the Nordic countries, bioinformatics groups from CBS, in Denmark
and Stockholm University, organized a conference - Bioinformatics '99.
During that conference the organization of future international Nordic
conferences was discussed and it was found that there was a need for a
society that could be the formal organizing body for such conferences.
An interim board was elected and has since then discussed issues regarding
the society and the future conferences.
The aim of the society should be to promote bioinformatics
activities within all the Nordic countries (including the Baltic states
and Poland). The most important issue should be a yearly conference that
should move between the different countries. The society should
have an active interaction with ISCB - International Society for Computational
biology.
